collecting water

collectingwater

Anyone could wonder what is the connection between peace, children and water. Even if at first, it is not easy to identify it, it is an obvious connection…

Clean drinking water means for children no time spent walking for several hours a day to collect water for their families, so it means more time spent at school and for schoolwork, and more education for them, and education is the most powerful weapon for building a more peaceful world… It is as simple as this.

More generally, as a precious resource, water can be not only a reason for war and conflict in many places between states and communities around the world, but its access can also be a weapon in war. All those actual and potential conflicts over water increase awareness about the important need for peaceful cooperation.

On the video above, Vandana Shiva, the world-known environmental activist explains better than anyone how “water is at the heart of peace, the heart of justice and the heart of sustainability”.
